When he finally deciphered and translated the message written on the sacred tablets, he realized that the inscriptions related the creation and history of humankind. It was a remarkable discovery, but some pieces were missing.
Lemuria is often referred to as “Mu”. The best-known account of Mu was presented by Colonel James Churchward (1851-1936) who devoted 50 years of his life trying to reveal the lost continent’s and humanity’s true history.
Churchward was an engineer educated at Oxford and writer of several books on the subject of Mu.
Among many things, Churchward wrote that the Garden Of Eden was not in Asia but on a continent in the Pacific Ocean.
He also said that the Biblical story of creation did not originate from the peoples of the Nile or of the Euphrates Valley, but from this now submerged continent of Mu, that should be called the motherland of Man.
Churchward’s interest in Mu started in 1868. While serving in India, Colonel Churchward came across some unusual stone tablets that were hidden at a remote monastery. At the time, Churchward was helping a priest to distribute aid to people in need.
The priest explained that he was the last survivor of the Naacal order and the ancient stones tablets were the work of two Naacals, “Holy Brothers”. The Naacals were a priestly brotherhood sent from Mu to teach its sacred writings world-wide. They ended up in Burma and India and were later persecuted by Hindu priests and driven into the mountains. The Naacal writings were stolen by the Brahmins and resurfaced in the Hindu Vedas, but in a corrupted form. The original Naacal teachings were sealed away and hidden in temple vaults for centuries.
Churchward learned that the tablets were written in the original language of humankind.
Naturally, Churchward was eager to learn more about the teachings of the Holy brothers and after some persuasion the priest agreed to show the Colonel the remaining tablets that contained occult wisdom recorded in an esoteric language of symbols. Some of the symbols, like the spiral and swastika were familiar but others were totally unknown.
When Colonel Churchward, together with the priest managed to decipher and translate the message written on the sacred tablets, they realized that the inscriptions related the creation and history of humankind.
It was a remarkable discovery and churchward was convinced that he had read the oldest document on the Earth.
Nevertheless, there was one problem – some of the tablets were missing and the message was incomplete.
Fascinated by what he had learned, Churchward began chasing for the ancient records. He searched in temples of India and in other parts of the world. He visited Central Asia, Siberia, South Pacific, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, and he spent considerable time studying dead languages. He was determined to find the missing pieces, and so he did.
It was at Lhasa, TIbet that he finally succeeded in discovering the missing portion of the record.
At the same time, completely unaware of Churward’s research, William Niven, an American mineralogist discovered a couple of tablets in Mexico. The inscribed characters were very similar to those studied by Churchward in India.
Soon more similar inscriptions were found in Maya temples, pre-Columbian stone calendars, the stone of Tizoc and the tablets, also of stone, at Azcopotzalso. Decades later, writing of same type was found on Easter Island and on vessels dug up in 1925 at Glozel, near Vichy, France. Everything indicated that the ancients were using the same alphabet.

Based on this information, the tablets he had studied before in India and on the Lhasa tablet, Colonel Churchward was able to present the whole picture. He described the geography of the sacred island Mu, as well as the vanished civilization’s society. In his deepest beliefs, Mu was the mother of all ancient cultures, such as the Egyptians, the Chaldees, the Babylonians, the Persians, the Greeks, the Hindus, and the Chinese. All cultures on Earth originated from the vanished super humans of Mu.
Churchward maintained that Mu was called the “Empire of the Sun” and was ruled by the emperor Ra Mu whose imperial escutcheon depicted a fiery disk with eight rays.
According to Colonel Churchward, Mu had seven wonderful cities and many overseas colonies. Its people dominated not only the whole Asia, but also southern Europe. They looked like humans, having dark hair and blue eyes, but they were much taller than modern man. They were a great race, superior to us in science and technology. The entire population counted 64,000,000 people, divided into ten tribes. During their time epoch, the climate was different on Earth. Mu had a subtropical climate with huge green forests inhabited by various animals.
It was a wonderful island, inhabited by very intelligent people. Then it all ended. The sacred island experienced two disasters, of which the last led to the destruction of the civilization about 12,000 BC. The Lhasa tablet says it was because of a falling star that people perished. It describes the last moments as follows:
“When the star Bal fell into the Earth at a place where there is nothing but sea, the seven cities with their temples and their golden gates were shaken, a great fire sprang up, and the streets were filled with dense smoke. Men trembled with fear, and great crowds flocked to the temples and the king’s palace.
The king said to them: ‘Did I not predict all this?’ and the men and women in the precious garments and bracelets begged and implored him: ‘Ra-Mu, save us.’ But the king told them that they were all doomed to die with their slaves and children, and that a new race of mankind would rise from their ashes.”
It is indeed an intriguing account. The people appeared to be unaware of the coming disaster, but the king knew this was going to happen.
In the Deluge stories from the around the world, the gods always knew about the approaching cataclysm, but the people were kept in the dark. Was the king of Mu of extraterrestrial origin? Was he together with other “gods” responsible for the creation of the Mu civilization, which he knew would eventually perish because of a cosmic catastrophe?
Mu was destroyed, but the story of the secret of the Lords of Mu does not end with the continent’s destruction.
